Brother Jacob Spate

 -1949-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The annual Installation of Officers was held on January 22nd, and musical renditions were delivered by Miss B. Weldon accompanied by Miss P. Rogers Dancing, visitation and refreshments were enjoyed by all who attended.

In February it was decided by motion and vote to give the pews that were no longer being used to the Baptist Church as a gift. The annual Masonic Breakfast was attended by a large number of Mason's, their sons and their guests. Bro D. Doer gave a very interesting speech on his experiences dealing with professional athletes.

In May of this year, Clovis Lodge was privileged to watch a "United States Army Officer's Degree", all of the members of the team being active in the U. S. Army and the least rank of 1st Lieutenant. In June employee's of Pacific Bell Telephone and Telegraph put on a third degree at Clovis Lodge.

In July the annual picnic with the Eastern Star was a dismal failure due to lack of interest on both groups part. It was recommended that it be forgone in the future. In October Bro. Dr. Winter gave a very enlightening speech i n the banquet hall about the fight with tuberculosis, the progress made, and the problems in connection therewith. Its seems strange to be reading of such things after the fact, and because of someone else's efforts we as a society don't have to worry about such things today.

In December the "Roll Call" evening featured piano playing, a reading by Bro. T. Glenn PM, and several songs sang by Miss S. Allen. It was noted that Clovis Lodge lost no members due to death this year.

On January 1, 1980, Bro. Jacob Spate passed away. Bro. Jacob's passing was a big loss to Clovis Lodge.
